Things to do in Eastbourne

Nestled between East Sussex hotspots, Brighton and Hastings, Eastbourne is a fantastic place for a day out.

The Seafront

 

The pinnacle of Eastbourne is its glorious seafront with lovely cafes and small businesses dotted along the promenade. Stretching four miles, it makes for a fantastic walk with views to neighbouring towns and the famous Beachy Head cliffs.

During the summer you’ll find plenty of bustling markets and events such as the Airbourne festival drawing thousands of friendly faces down to the seafront. Join them with a scoop of ice cream from one of the local ice cream parlours and a dip in the ocean whilst watching the world go by.

Beachy Head

 

At the edge of Eastbourne, you’ll come across the incredible 530ft cliffs known as Beachy Head. These rolling hills are Eastbourne’s claim to fame having been locations used in Harry Potter and James Bond! From the top you can enjoy panoramic views of Eastbourne and the English Channel.

Once you’ve completed the walk to the iconic red and white lighthouse at the top of the cliffs, why not enjoy a warm meal and a pint at the Beachy Head Pub?

Historical Attractions

 

A short trip down the road from Eastbourne town is the magnificent Herstmonceux Castle. With 300 acres of beautiful grounds surrounding the 15th century building, it’s definitely a place to visit.

Just round the corner from the Castle is The Observatory Science Centre. Take part in incredible hands on science experiments, and head to the Observatory to take a look through world-class telescopes.

There are plenty of other fascinating historical sites to visit in and around the Eastbourne area. Visit the Long Man of Wilmington, one of the 74 Martello Towers found on the outskirts of Eastbourne, and head into Lewes a quick drive away to visit the home of Anne of Cleaves.
